I've been attending a swimming school since last October. In my childhood, swimming was one of the most unpleasant school activities for me. I barely could swim 25 meters or so, and my classmates made fun of my poor swimming style.
I hated not only swimming classes but also swimming pools themselves. Since then, I'd avoided anything that would remind me of swimming.
However, a few years ago, my children began to attend a swimming school because my wife wanted them to be able to swim. Of course, I also did want them to be able to swim so as not to give them the same embarrassing experiences as I had. Over time, my children became able to swim better, and I thought "It would be fun if I could swim like them."
I told my wife that I wanted to learn how to swim. She agreed with my idea, and I looked for a swimming school that provided night classes for adults. At first, I took a trial class, in which I realized that it was fun to swim even though I couldn't swim well. Coaches at the school were very kind and sympathetic. I enrolled at the school immediately after the trial class.
Now I attend the swimming school once a week. I can swim 25 meters much easier than I could in my childhood. Next year I will try to extend my swimming capacity to 50 or 100 meters.
